Having an ant infestation in your home or business is not nice. They are capable of
multiplying in their thousands and follow a pheromone trail to the source of food in
your home. Ants do not pose any particular risk to human health but can be a
nuisance species in and around your property which can cause distress and anxiety.
There are 4 species of Ant in the UK, Pharaoh Ant, Rogers Ant, Ghost Ant and the
more common Black Garden Ant.
Ants are social insects that belong to the same biological order as bees and wasps.
Each ant is a member of a highly organised colony. Inside one single nest, there are
workers, soldiers, drones and queens. Colonies of ants can occupy and use a wide
area of land to support them.
Ants can generally be found in garden or patio areas of your property, but
unfortunately sometimes they will find their way into your home. When a foraging
ant finds a sweet substance it will go back to the nest whilst leaving a pheromone
trail and inform other members of the colony. As other ants follow the pheromone
trail to find the goodies the trail will get stronger until the point you have a large ant
infestation in your property.
