Wasps

Discovering wasps on your property can cause a problem, particularly in the summer when wasp activity is at its highest. A high number of wasps around your home or garden usually indicates that there is a wasp nest nearby.

The treatment of wasp nests is important if it poses a significant risk, such as if it’s located inside or around your home or if someone is allergic to wasp stings.

Not only can they cause a nuisance, but people often have an inherent fear of wasps.  Wasp species can become very aggressive in the late summer months. Treatment for Wasps can be safely carried out all year round by your Excel Pest Control Ltd Technician.

Wasp Nest Treatments

Attempting to remove a wasp nest yourself can be incredibly dangerous. Wasps will defend their home and can become extremely aggressive if they feel threatened.  It is best to treat a nest earlier in the year before numbers increase reducing the threat of stings during treatment.

Wasps will usually only attack a human under what they perceive as threatening circumstances, but a wasp sting contains a pheromone that will alert other nearby wasps to their distress and could result in a much larger wasp attack.  Behaviours such as swatting at a wasp or attempting to hit or knock a nest down could lead to painful stings.

It is always advisable to contact a professional when it comes to handling a wasp pest control issue.  Being stung by a wasp or bee can be very painful, and for some, can be life-threatening if you are allergic to stings.

If Wasps feel threatened they will sting, so for your safety please call Excel Pest Control Ltd to protect your home or business.

The larger Queen hibernates over winter, and then makes a nest in the spring in which to lay her eggs. She feeds her young on insects until they grow into worker wasps.  Around three to four weeks later, workers which are all sterile females forage for over a mile in search of food.  A single nest can potentially produce thousands of wasps in a year.

Wasps can be very annoying especially in and around where there is food or drink.  They will continue to build their nest throughout the summer months.
In August-September, wasps are particularly renowned for becoming a nuisance as the workers become more complacent in their surroundings.
Only female wasps have a sting that they can use repeatedly if they feel threatened. Treating a wasp nest is often the most efficient way to control a wasp problem and reduce the threat of being stung.  Wasps have the potential to attack in large numbers if their nest is disturbed.
